TuxMath is an arcade game that teaches children a wide variety of math principles and skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions.

Learning basic math is a vital skill for all children, but teaching that subject is easier said than done. Many children don’t enjoy or benefit from rote learning, and that can make certain math principles extremely difficult to teach. If you have a child or student that is struggling with basic math, then TuxMath could end up being an invaluable tool.

Unlike many other educational games, TuxMath actually follows a storyline. In this game, you are going to play as a penguin known as Commander Tux. Your primary goal as the commander is to protect igloos and other penguins from comets that are falling out of the sky. Instead of comets that are made from metals and gases, you are going to be fighting against comets that are made from math problems. The gameplay in TuxMath is very similar to traditional arcade games like Missile Command, and getting used to the mechanics should be very simple.

In addition to having exciting gameplay, TuxMath also has some very useful features for parents and teachers. For schools, this game provides you with support for many different users and grade levels. There are also high score tables, tutorials, and multiple games for students to play alone or alongside one another. Upon its release, TuxMath included five separate game types to choose from, but the developers and other users have released a handful of additional games.

While TuxMath does have outdated graphics, it is still a great tool for any child who is struggling with math.
